Experience the charm of Yanagawa's waterways on a relaxing donkobune boat cruise through the canals that crisscross the city. Savor a delightful lunch of unagi no seiro-mushi (steamed eel) at Ohana, a nationally designated scenic spot.

Then, journey to the renowned tea-producing region of Yame, where you'll admire sprawling green tea fields and enjoy a casual Yame matcha tea ceremony.

Yanagawa River Cruise

Glide through the serene waterways on a traditional donkobune boat, taking in the picturesque scenery of weeping willows, seasonal flowers, and charming white-walled buildings.

Ohana (Lunch Location)

This former villa of the Tachibana family, the feudal lords of Yanagawa, boasts a 5.8 acre estate with a beautiful garden and is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. It is a precious cultural property still cared for by descendants of the Tachibana family.

Yanagawa's Famous Unagi no Seiro-mushi

Indulge in this local Yanagawa specialty, a flavorful dish of eel and rice steamed in a bamboo steamer. The eel is grilled and placed atop seasoned rice with shredded egg, creating a thoroughly warming dish with a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.

Yame Chuo Daichaen

Marvel at the vast rolling hills of this tea plantation, a major production center for Yame tea. Enjoy panoramic views of the Ariake Sea and Shimabara Peninsula from the observation deck on a clear day.

Maruya Sabo

Located in the historic Yame Fukushima district with its beautiful white-walled streets, this traditional townhouse offers a casual and authentic Yame matcha experience. Enjoy a cup of matcha prepared by the teahouse owner, followed by a hands-on lesson where you'll learn to whisk your own matcha. Maruya Sabo offers visitors a chance to experience a casual style of Yame tea ceremony.
