Explore the landscape brought about by Oku-Izumo Tatara Ironmaking, and closely observe the inherited skills over 2 days. Surrounded by the rich nature of the Chugoku Mountains, stay at the Kamedake Hot Spring, famous for its medicinal baths since ancient times. You can experience the tradition and beauty of Japan through activities such as Japanese sword forging & Iaido cutting demonstrations by active swordsmiths, and knife making at "Unshu Chuzen Cutlery".

Course Content

- [Experience] 

・Mini Tatara Experience and Forging Experience at Oku-Izumo Tatara and Sword Museum.

At the museum of Tatara ironmaking in Oku-Izumo Town, which has been continuing from ancient times to the present, you can make a small lump of iron resembling "Tamahagane", the raw material for Japanese swords, and take it home. Also, you can enjoy Japanese sword forging by active swordsmiths, along with talks mixed with the history, culture, and trivia of swordsmiths.

・Knife Making Experience at Unshu Tadazen Cutlery, a line of blacksmith artisans since the Meiji era

You will take turns doing iron-beating work (forging) in groups of four. There will be one knife per group, but you can take it home.

・You will be guided to the Tabe famiry Storehouse Group, which conveys the prosperity of Tatara Ironmaking at the time, and the Sugaya Tatara Sannai Life Museum, which displays various tools and folk crafts used by people who were engaged in Tatara Ironmaking.
