Tottori

(Departing from Tottori Sta.) A Journey of "Healing" through Handcrafts and the Land of Six Roots Purification and Six Senses Healing activity

Bokun ID:
952618
Product Code:

This is a tour visiting the land of Six Roots Purification and Six Senses Healing, recognized as Japan's first Heritage. Mt. Mitoku purifies the six roots of those who visit for ascetic practices, while Misasa Onsen heals the six senses of those who come for hot spring therapy. "Mt. Mitoku" and "Misasa Onsen" were selected for the first round of "Japan Heritage" designation in 2015.
Mt. Mitoku and Misasa Onsen are steeped in deep stories. Now in the Reiwa era, Tottori's "Mingei" (folk crafts) are attracting attention for their innovative qualities within their simple flavors. Popular not only among older people but also young people. The journey starts with the breath of Mingei pottery and miscellaneous goods felt here and there. At the "Tottori Sand Dunes," you'll feel the grandeur and power of nature on your skin, and at the inn, enjoy the hot spring flowing directly from its own source.

Course Content

You can see the collection gathered by Shoya Yoshida, the father of Tottori's Mingei, and modern Mingei items. The interior decoration of the museum is also a highlight, and you can enjoy local cuisine at the attached shop. The main attraction of the "Tottori Sand Dunes," designated as part of the San'in Kaigan Geopark, is the magnificent 47m high sand hill "Uma no Se" (Horse's Back). After climbing the steep slope, the Sea of Japan spreads out before you, and you can see the coastline far into the distance. The next day, you'll visit the "Misasa Violin Museum," a rare museum in Japan specializing in string instruments, and then view the Nageire-do Hall from the "Yohaijo" at the foot of Mt. Mitoku. In Kurayoshi, you'll visit a museum housed in Japan's oldest circular schoolhouse, where you can view approximately 2,000 figures. You'll also tour the old merchant townscape and white-walled storehouses built from the Edo period to the Taisho period.
