【Bitchu Matsuyama Castle Observation Deck】

This Observatory is famous for its view of Bitchu Matsuyama Castle floating in a sea of clouds, and is a point where you can see the castle tower of Bitchu Matsuyama Castle from the side, built on the summit of Mt. Gaeushi at an altitude of 430 meters. In particular, in the early morning from fall to spring, the sea of clouds spreads all over, and if you are lucky, you can see “Bitchu Matsuyama Castle floating in a sea of clouds” as shown in the photo.

※ The occurrence of a sea of clouds depends on the temperature difference throughout the day and the weather (especially wind) of the day.

【Fukiya Townscape】

A “red townscape” Fukiya suddenly appears on a plateau at an altitude of about 500 meters. It is a mining town that once prospered with one of the best bengara (bengara) and copper (akagane) production in Japan. The red pigment pattern produced at Fukiya was distributed all over the country, vividly colored buildings such as shrines and temples and crafts representing Japan, such as Kutaniyaki, Imari ware, and Wajima-lacquerware, and created “Japan Red,” which became the image color of Japan.

Merchants who gained wealth decorated their houses with red tiles and lattices (straws) colored with petal patterns, and the townscape that still remains today exudes a unique landscape and attracts many visitors. Also, the ruins of the Bengara factory and copper mine remain in the surrounding area, which reminds us of the prosperity of the past when “Japan Red” was created.
