Techno Memorial Service at Ichijozan Sho-on-ji Temple and Dagashi Shop Experience at Echizen Togo activity

Bokun ID:
1015873
Product Code:

At Sho-on-ji Temple, Chief Priest Asakura strives to incorporate innovative methods, such as pop-up ‘temple cafes’ and ‘techno(music) memorial services’, to share information about Buddhist traditions.

After a talk which introduces the statues and scrolls in the temple’s main hall, and an explanation about the course of events and objectives leading to the establishment of ‘techno memorial services’, you are invited to participate in an actual ‘techno memorial service’. An English interpreter will be present. It is an opportunity to experience Japanese traditions and history from a Buddhist perspective.

Next is a visit to a ‘dagashiya’ (a traditional candy store) in Echizen-Togo, which is ‘run’ by local children. Dagashi are low priced snacks and sweets in fun packaging, designed to attract children with small allowances. Dagashi shops have been around since the Edo Period (1603-1868) and boomed in the post-war Showa Period from the 1950s to the 1980s) when they were the common after-school hangout spot for kids.

Interaction with the children, in the setting of a Japanese retro-style candy store, is a unique way to experience Japanese culture.
