This tour from JR Kumamoto Station will take you to the famous sites of Takachiho, including Takachiho Gorge, Takachiho Shrine, and other scenic and historical spots recommended by the local guides, who will also tell you the best photo spots.
Highlights
Amanoiwato Shrine
This shrine is dedicated to the myth of Amaterasu hiding in the cave known as Amanoiwato. The shrine features two pavilions: the Nishihongu (Western Hall), which venerates the cave where Amaterasu is said to have hidden, and the Higashihongu (Eastern Hall), which marks the location where she lived after she emerged from the cave.
Takachiho Shrine
Founded around 1,900 years ago, Takachiho Shrine is the head shrine of the 88 Takachiho shrines in the area and is widely worshipped for agricultural and matchmaking blessings.
Takachiho Gorge
With cliffs rising 50-100 meters high and stretching 7 km from east to west, this gorge features the famous Manai Falls and the unique Takachiho Bridge, where three bridges are stacked at different heights over the same valley. The scenic beauty and mythological significance of this gorge are captivating.
