• A local guide will show you the history and townscape of Otsu-juku, which flourished as a post town during the Edo period.
• At the Otsu Festival Hikiyama Exhibition Hall, you can view the gorgeous hikiyama (floats) and even experience playing the festival music.
• At Hirai Shoten, you can experience a tour of the 360-year-old sake brewery and a tasting session. An original one-cup souvenir is also included.
• At Yaoyo, you can sample the flavors of pickles from a shop that has been in business since the Edo period. You can also take home seasonal pickles as souvenirs.
• At the Otsu-e shop, you can appreciate "Otsu-e," folk paintings that continue to use traditional techniques. Take home a postcard or notepad as a souvenir.
• Visit the Lake Biwa Canal, a major project built in the Meiji era to transport water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto.
• Finally, take a break at the Miidera Chikaramochi main store. Enjoy freshly made Chikaramochi and tea. There is also an Otsu-e gallery inside the store.
