This is an authentic paper-making experience at the Ryozo Yanase Paper Mills, where you can enjoy two types of paper-making: kanagata rakusui-paper (*whirling pattern) and decorative washi (Japanese paper).

The term “only here” refers to the fact that only Ryozo Yanase Paper Mills produces this type of paper in the Echizen Washi production area. The experience involves the use of authentic metal molds and tools actually used by craftsmen. Each participant can take home two sheets of washi (decorative washi and kanagata rakusui-paper) that will be dried on the spot. This is a rare opportunity to hear about commercial papermaking and the work of papermaking artisans. We will show you the joy of papermaking and the wonder of washi through hands-on experience, so come and enjoy papermaking with the artisans in a friendly, conversational atmosphere! Our staff (artisans) look forward to your participation.
