The Takayama Festival is one of Japan's top three beautiful festivals, and was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.
The 23 festival stalls are essential for this festival. Takayama food stalls were made about 350 years ago, and they are still being repaired and preserved over a period of 3 years per car. There are several craftsmen in Takayama who have taken over traditional techniques to this day, and they are still being requested from all over Japan to repair festival-related tools, food stalls, and temples and shrines due to their high skills.
In this tour, after visiting the food stalls actually used at the festival, we will visit the workshop according to the customer's wishes and the craftsman's schedule.
Please select a workshop from the following.
1. Miyadai Craft Workshop: After visiting the structure of actual food stalls, etc., we make chopsticks using carpentry tools from craftsmen. You can take home the finished chopsticks.
2. Painter Workshop: Visit the home and workshop of a lacquer painter and experience painting. The artwork is lacquered and finished by craftsmen and sent to your home by international mail about 2 months later.
3. Carver's Workshop: Visit the No. 1 one-sword carving workshop and observe the actual production site. Comes with a gift of one-sword carved accessories made by the artist.
