This plan allows visitors to experience authentic rice cake pounding using a pestle and mortar in an old house in the Togo area of Fukui City, a major rice-producing region.

Freshly steamed glutinous rice is transferred to a mortar and pounded (glutinous rice is crushed and kneaded with a pestle) to make it uniform. After that, everyone pushes the rice into the mortar and pestle to make the rice uniform. There are various types of pestles, large and small, for everyone from children to adults to enjoy. The staff will pound the mochi to your voice, so even first-timers and children can feel at ease. 

The taste of freshly pounded rice cake is exceptional! You can enjoy four different flavors: “Oroshi (grated radish),” “Nori-maki (rolled in seaweed),” “Abekawa (sweet red bean paste),” and “Ozoni (boiled rice). Since it is all-you-can-eat, you can enjoy it to your heart's content. You can participate even if you just want to eat.
