Since Kinoshita Nobutoshi, the nephew of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's lawful wife “Nene (Nene),” entered the Hiji Domain in Keicho 6 (1601), the Kinoshita family ruled over a long period of 16 to 270 years. The splendid stone wall of Hiji Castle, which is built with Beppu Bay in the background, still exists, and you can walk in a kimono on a popular course where you can slowly tour the area around the castle ruins while enjoying the seascape.
