In the Yoshino River basin, the “Hachigo-giri(fog)” phenomenon occurs at the change of seasons, affecting the surrounding topography, weather, and water temperature of the river. This phenomenon refers to the fog (sea of clouds) that seems to rise up from the river to the mountain surface during periods of extreme temperature change. The sight of the mountain tops floating in a sea of pure white fog along the Yoshino River is a spectacular sight that is unique to the geographical features of the Yoshino River basin.
Waiting at the observation spot before dawn, you can see the fantastic fog moving in the sunrise light.
The best season to see it is around 7:00 a.m. in the morning around April and October to December.
