“HOTABENCH (scallop bench)” is a sustainable bench made from discarded scallop shells.
Join a experiential tour at Tokyo's cutting-edge research facility “NOVARE,” the birthplace of “HOTABENCH,” also set up in the Expo 2050 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and learn its manufacturing process.
Engineers from Shimizu Corporation, which operates the research facility, talk about the secret story of “HOTABENCH” development, the possibility of scallop shells, and experience 3D printing with a large 3D printer over 8 meters high, and a full-scale mock-up tour in a space that realistically recreates a construction site, etc., and you can directly experience the spirit of manufacturing. Also, as a special occasion to commemorate the opening of the Expo, we will also guide you to areas that are normally closed to the public. Please join us if you are interested in making products using regional resources, or if you want to be involved in future manufacturing.
*This is a manufacturing experiential tour as part of the Co-Design Challenge, Expo 2050.
