Kimono and armor dressing experiences at Izumi Fumoto Samurai Residences, a Japan Heritage Site activity

Take a stroll around the Izumi Fumoto Samurai Residences, a Japan Heritage Site and an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

Admission to the Izumi Fumoto History Museum and the samurai residences that housed the Tax Office and the Takezoe family is included.

Staff skilled in costume dressing are on hand to help you wear a kimono or samurai armor.       

After putting on your outfit, you are welcome to walk around the samurai residences and Japanese garden and take pictures. 


【Kimono or yukata】

- Please choose your favorite kimono or yukata from our selection, which was carefully curated by local kimono merchants.

- For women, kimono, obi, and tabi socks can be taken home! (Men's kimono, obi, and tabi socks are available for rental only.)

- A long garmet for wearing under the kimono, waist straps, clips, and so on will be provided (rental only, for men and women).

- For a group of five or more, a free tea ceremony experience is available! (This option is ¥5,000 for groups of four people or fewer.)

- When the time is up, you will be asked to change back into your original clothes. The facility does not offer hair or  make-up services.                               

【Armor】

- Up to four adults and one child can take part as one group.

- As we use authentic armor, it is heavy. Participants can opt to wear the armor for a short time if they wish.


【Accessibility】

- Wheelchairs are available.

- People with mobility or visability issues are welcome to participate.

Precautions

Kimono or yukata dressing:

- We will ask you about your height and the size of your regular clothes.

- It is not possible to take home accessories such as waist straps and zori thonged sandals.

- Groups of 10 or more may be asked to split up into smaller groups.

- Groups of less than four will be dressed at the kimono store and taken to and from the samurai residences by car (5 minutes' drive).


Armor dressing experience:

Up to four adults and one child (aged over five) can be accommodated in one group.

Kimono or yukata dressing experience for five people or more:

Meet at the parking lot of the Izumi Fumoto History Museum  > Go to the samurai residence Mihara-tei (2 minutes' walk) > Choose kimono or yukata and get dressed (30 minutes' duration.) > Free time (about 2 hours) > Meet at the samurai residence Mihara-tei > Change back into original clothes > Depart.


Kimono or yukata dressing experience for four people or fewer:

Meet at the parking lot of the Izumi Fumoto History Museum > Go to the kimono/yukata store (5 minutes by car)> Select kimono or yukata and get dressed (30 minutes' duration)> Go to the Izumi Fumoto Samurai Residences (5 minutes by car) > Free time (about 2 hours)> Transport back to the kimono/yukata store (5 minutes by car)> Change back into original clothes (15 min.) > Depart for group's desired destination within Izumi City (by car).


Armor dressing experience:

Meet at the parking lot of Izumi Fumoto History Museum > Go to the samurai residence Saisho-tei (2 minutes' walk) > Put on the armor (30 minutes' duration) > Free time (up to 2 hours) > Meet at the samurai residence Saisho-tei > Change back into original clothes and depart.
