In the morning, you will take a thorough tour of Himeji Castle with a guide who has received specialized training. In the afternoon, we moved to a “cotton shop” where cotton, which supported the economy of the Himeji Domain during the Edo period, is cultivated using traditional farming methods. Therefore, you will enjoy the “Himeyama Squeezing” dyeing experience using cloth (T-shirts and stoles) woven with hand-spun yarn. Also, at “Harada Komyodo” in the same area, you will experience lacquering and gold leaf pasting at a workshop that inherits the tradition of nurichiya, which has continued to serve the lord of Himeji Castle since the Edo period. Furthermore, at “Sunagawa Lacquer Crafts,” which has continued since the Genroku period, you can experience the techniques of craftsmen who have painted Buddhist altars, festival stalls, lion head foil, and lacquered shrines and temples, and the tense atmosphere of the workshop. Please spend a special moment in touch with the depth of traditional crafts while directly interacting with the painter. If you're lucky, you may also have the chance to actually visit the historic residence (living room) where Emperor Meiji stayed at “Senba Hontoku-ji Temple.”
