Enjoying traditional Japanese culture at Ryusenji Temple — Urasenke matcha tea ceremony experience and Buddhist Dharma

In this program, you can experience traditional Japanese culture to your heart's content in a relaxed space at Ryusen-ji Temple. After renting a kimono and learning how to dress, you can experience how to make matcha in the Urasenke style, and finally listen to Buddhist rituals in Japanese and English.

The flow of the experience:

9:00 Choose a kimono and experience putting it on
You will be asked to choose a kimono and put it on by specialized staff. After getting dressed, it's time to take a commemorative photo. Wear beautiful kimonos, take pictures, and feel Japanese traditions.

11:00 Urasenke Matcha Experience
You will experience traditional Urasenke matcha serving. You will learn about the spirit of Japanese tea ceremony by drinking and tasting matcha while seated. You can also experience making your own matcha.

11:45 Teachings
You can learn Buddhist teachings by the monks of Ryusen-ji Temple through 15 minutes of puja in English. You can feel the deep wisdom and peace of mind of Buddhism.

12:00 Questionnaire
After the experience, if you have any concerns or questions, the monks will carefully answer them. You can learn more about Buddhist teachings and culture.

Matcha experience at Ryusenji

At Ryusenji Temple, you can experience the traditional Japanese culture Urasenke matcha.
You can rent a kimono and take pictures.
You can drink matcha and try brewing it yourself.

Listen to the Dharma in English

There is also a 15 minute talk on Buddhism in English at the end.

You can wear traditional kimonos that match the season.
